Smoke Detectors, Sprinklers, & Fire Alarm

Smoke Detectors - are NOT connected to the building Fire Alarm System or Sprinklers. Your smoke detector going off will not activate the building fire alarm or sprinklers. If your smoke detector is making noises without indication it likely needs a new battery. Most require a 9V battery. Check Youtube for how to replace the battery depending on your smoke detector model.

Sprinklers - are activated by excessive heat or fire, not smoke. Each sprinkler is activated independently. One sprinkler coming on will NOT cause others in your condo or in the building to come on. Water flowing through the sprinkler triggers the building fire alarm. If a sprinkler malfunctions the quickest and easiest way to shut it off is to turn the valve off in the west stairwell as shown in video:

Fire Alarm is activated by water flowing through a sprinkler or when one of the fire alarms in either the east or west stair wells are pulled. --- If the fire alarm sounds you should close all exterior doors in your condo and exit the building immediately via one of the stairwells. Elevators do NOT work, they return to the ground floor and stay there.
